Seabury Hall Craft Faire And Other Weekend Events!

Friday night kicks off the weekend with Lahaina’s Town Party from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The evening will get started with Maui Jam from 5:00 pm to 6:45 pm. Winners from the 4th annual Short Story Writing Contest will be announced at 6:50 pm. The Maui Fridays website has information for this event.

The 44th Annual Seabury Hall Craft Faire will be taking place this Saturday May 14th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  All proceeds from the faire benefit the Financial Aid program. More then 100 local artists will be featured.  Also on hand, activities for kids, silent auction, food, and live entertainment.  Admission is $5.00 children 12 and under are free. There are lots of brunch options available to help celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday.  One choice is the Champagne Brunch offered at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel.  This Maui favorite will take place from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Tiki Terrace restaurant.  Enjoy traditional brunch items as well as seafood, specialty Hawaiian fare, fruits, dessert, and champagne.  Children 5 and under eat free with paying adult.  More information including reservations available here.

Waiehu Golf Course Saved

Maui County Council Budget and Finance Committee finalized the budget for 2018. The budget includes saving Waiehu Golf Course, and funds to resurface roads. The budget for 2018 fiscal year will take effect on July 1.

The proposed budget is $45.3 million more than the current fiscal years budget. $5.2 million is allocated for road resurfacing, and $2.5 million on environmental protection. Saving the golf course was a priority for the committee.  Other Budget highlights include $4.3 Million for the revitalization of Wailuku town, $25 million for a new county service center at the Maui Business Park in Kahului, $1.2 Million for the expansion of Kula Agricultural Park, just to name a few.

Budget For Kaiser Agreed On

A budget for the Maui County hospitals to be run by Kaiser Permanente was agreed upon by legislative officials on Monday.  The $33.4 million budget would include improvement and expansion plans as well.

The final total figure has not been agreed upon, but the two-year budget is expect to run from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2019. Lawmakers could go to vote as early as tomorrow on budget bills.

Other budget items that may be voted on include $3.7 million for the Paia bypass design, $103 million for Kahului Airport improvements, $9.3 million for Kaanapali Beach restoration, $2 million to replace the gym floor and make band room expansions at Maui High School, and many others! Maui Seasons For Peace

Bob and Donna Hansen were one of four groups of recipients of the 2017 Maui Seasons for Peace Award for their Community contributions to those in need.  The other awardees were Stacy Moniz, Uncle George Kahumoko Jr., and Elaine Arakaki Reneau.

 

Earth Day Events

West Maui Greenway has events to help you celebrate Earth Day.  Happening now is their online silent auction.  Great prizes donated by local businesses are available to bid on.  This gives the winner a chance to try out new foods, lodging, and activities at a reduced cost.

On April 22 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Love the West Maui Greenway Day will be taking place at the Lahaina Civic Center.  This event is free and perfect for the entire family.  Live music, food trucks, and family events will be taking place throughout the day. The West Maui Greenway events page has more information on this event including a schedule of activities.
