It’s official! The first whale was spotted off the shores of Maui. It is always exciting to know the beginning of the season has started. Maui Whale Watching has information on tours available and a history of these beautiful creatures. Happy Watching!
Happening Now! The 95th Maui Fair! The fair takes place at the War Memorial Complex in Kahului. The theme for this years Fair is “Celebrating the Greatest Things In Life”. $10 admission fee for adults, kids aged 5-11 $5 admission fee. 4 and under are free. On Sunday the admission fee lowers to $7 and $3 respectively.
This year the fair will be having its first street party starting at 5:30 pm. Be on the lookout tonight for a possible flashmob! On Sunday the street party will have some Aloha Characters. Sunday at 3:00 at the main stage is the 12th annual Chili Cookoff sponsored by the Maui Fire Department. All proceeds of the Chili Cookoff will benefit the Shriners Hospital on behalf of the Maui County Fire Fighters Relief Association.
The Joy Zone has a new ride this year! Come by and ride the “Seven Seas”! Other rides include Magic Maze, Umbrella Squad, Zipper, and the Wave Swinger! Credits per ride vary. You can see more information regarding rides and credit cost here.
Events taking place at the fair this year include exhibits, a pie contest, baby of the year contest, and World Of Jam dance competition! Friday night kicks off the weekend with Lahaina’s Town Party from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The evening will get started with Maui Jam from 5:00 pm to 6:45 pm. Winners from the 4th annual Short Story Writing Contest will be announced at 6:50 pm. The Maui Fridays website has information for this event.
The 44th Annual Seabury Hall Craft Faire will be taking place this Saturday May 14th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. All proceeds from the faire benefit the Financial Aid program. More then 100 local artists will be featured. Also on hand, activities for kids, silent auction, food, and live entertainment. Admission is $5.00 children 12 and under are free. There are lots of brunch options available to help celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday. One choice is the Champagne Brunch offered at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. This Maui favorite will take place from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Tiki Terrace restaurant. Enjoy traditional brunch items as well as seafood, specialty Hawaiian fare, fruits, dessert, and champagne. Friday April 15th from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm the 8th Annual Steel Guitar Festival will be taking place at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel. This event is a free event open to the public! This will be the largest showcase of talent year to date. Scheduled to perform are Nathan Aweau, Maunalua, Mailani, and Ledward Kaapana. From 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday April 16th, the Maui Horse Show Association will be sponsoring the Western Horse Show at Piholo Ranch. Maui Gypsy Food Truck will be providing refreshments. Also beginning on Saturday April 16th, Brian Walks Maui will be starting. Brian Sato is walking the entire perimeter of Maui in 8 days concluding on April 23rd in the hopes to raise $5000 dollars for non-profit therapeutic programs. Opening Night for Art Of Trash is this Friday April 8th starting at 6:00 pm at the Maui Mall Center Stage. This annual three week exhibit showcases works of art made out of material most would consider trash. Opening night will feature an awards ceremony and a “Trash-ion” fashion show. Saturday April 9th at the Dunes at Maui Lani is the 28th annual Pundy Yokouchi Memorial Golf Tournament. Check in begins at 6:00 am. A fun day of golf, prizes, and delicious food will benefit the Maui Arts & Cultural Center programs. Maui Arts & Cultural Center website has information on the event.
April 10 come to the Boomvanger’s Spring Gift Show at Pioneer Inn from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm to benefit the Lahaina Yacht Club.
