Temporary Jobs Offered To Furloughed Workers

Staffing company, Altres, is offering temporary industrial work to federal workers that have been displace by the partial government shutdown at their Maui office.

Altres has need for workers in positions that include, mail sorters, rental car cleaners and transporters, janitors, landscapers, warehouse workers, and construction jobs. This program is being offered only to displaced government workers and will end once normal government work is resumed.

Those interested would need to contact 877-5572 to make an appointment. Be sure to bring your federal ID and fill out an application. A $100 bonus will be given to workers when their first 40 hours of work are completed.

Beachfest In Paia Starts Saturday

PYCC, Paia Youth & Cultural Center, is holding its 22nd annual Paia Bay Beachfest on Saturday along with Positively+KAI. First heat will begin at 8:00 am on the beach located at the PYCC.

Young surfers and bodyboarders will be displaying their skills including tricks and barrel riding. Preregistration is $20, if you register on the day of the event the cost is $30. If you wish to come out to watch and support there is no fee.

Local food vendors will be on hand with funds raised helping the PYCC. Special guests are expected to be in attendance including Kai Lenny and Kainoa McGee. The competition is going to be action packed with possibly up to 100 competitors.

Wailuku 1st Friday January 4th

Happening this Friday January 4th, its 1st Friday in Wailuku on Market Street! Street closures will begin at 5:30, with the event running from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Live entertainment provided by Leo Mana and Nevah Too Late. Handmade crafts from local artisans will be showcased. Food from restaurants including Gianotto’s Pizza, 808 on Main, Asian Star, King’s BBQ and many others to choose from!

Free parking available at the Maui Medical Group lot. This is a free family friendly event and a great way to support the local community!

New Years Eve Celebrations

Happy New Year! If you are still undecided about what to do for your New Years Eve celebration, here are some options to help you finalize your plans.

Down The Hatch in Lahaina will be hosting a New Years Eve celebration with a speakeasy theme. Dress up in your 1920’s outfit and enjoy two full bars and a live DJ! The night will start at 8:30 pm and end around 2:00 am.

Also in Lahaina, Fleetwoods on Front Street Mick Fleetwood & The Island Rumors Band will be hosting a celebration that will include opening band Ron Artis II and The Truth. Later in the evening DJ ILLZ performing a rooftop dance set.

Fireworks will be set off at two locations beginning at approximately 11:59 pm. The offshore barge at the Grand Wailea Resort, and the Four Seasons Resort Lana’i.
