Kapalua Wine & Food Festival

The 36th Annual Kapalua Wine & Food Festival will be taking place this weekend from June 8th to June 11th. This is the longest running food and wine event in the United States. Taking place at the Kapalua resort, this event was created to showcase fine wines and the culinary talents from international vendors.

Events during the 4 day festival include the Golf Tournament taking place at The Bay Course in Kapalua, cooking demonstration with Andrew Sutton of Disney’s Napa Rose restaurant, cooking demonstration with celebrity chef Cat Cora of Iron Chef, Maui’s top restaurants showcasing seafood at the Seafood Festival and various wine tasting seminars.

Makena Development Project

Project construction has begun on the new Makena Golf & Beach Club.  This private beachfront community is will house 50 condominium units, a brand new restaurant, pool, spa, and common area. The estimated cost of the project is $240 million.

The project, headed by Discovery Land and Good Fellow Bros., is expected to generate 270 construction jobs.  The project should take approximately 3 years to complete.  First occupants are expected in late 2018.

Restaurant Week Wailea

The twice yearly Restaurant Week Wailea will be taking place May 21st to May 27th.  Resort restaurants located throughout Wailea will be participating.

Pre-fixed menus will range in price from $29 to $59 per person. Funds from this event will support the Maui Food Bank. Each restaurant has agreed to make a donation to the Maui Food Bank program. Participating restaurants will be accepting reservations.  No coupons or passes needed.

Cinco De Mayo Celebration

Happy Cinco De Mayo! Come celebrate with Maui First Fridays tonight in Wailuku.  Street closure along market street will begin at 5:30 pm.  This is a free family event!

Besides crafts and delicious food, live entertainment including performances by Tflatz, Nevah Too Late, Leylani, and Dane, Kana, and Lane Trio.  Other features include Classic Cars, art and science for keiki, Get Up & Dance!, just to name a few.

Good eats provided by a number of local Wailuku favorites including Uptown Chevron, Gianotto’s Pizza, 808 on Main, and many others!

Waiehu Golf Course Saved

Maui County Council Budget and Finance Committee finalized the budget for 2018. The budget includes saving Waiehu Golf Course, and funds to resurface roads. The budget for 2018 fiscal year will take effect on July 1.

The proposed budget is $45.3 million more than the current fiscal years budget. $5.2 million is allocated for road resurfacing, and $2.5 million on environmental protection. Saving the golf course was a priority for the committee.  Other Budget highlights include $4.3 Million for the revitalization of Wailuku town, $25 million for a new county service center at the Maui Business Park in Kahului, $1.2 Million for the expansion of Kula Agricultural Park, just to name a few.
