Repairs are underway on South Kihei Road old culvert bridge. The hope is to stop erosion and stabilize the area. The completion deadline is set for the end of January. Read more on the project via Maui News here.

The Hansen Ohana joins in these festivities with the beginning of their annual charity drive to support the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center which works with the less fortunate children, many neglected, abused physically or sexually, abandoned along with other horrible experiences. We collect toys, gift cards, and donations which are given to CJC in order to support these children ages birth to adulthood fulfilling their physical and emotional needs. Unemployment News
The Island of Maui now has a 1.9 unemployment rate. If you include the Islands of Lanai and Molokai the unemployment rate adjusts upward.
Old Makena Resort
Maui Planning Commission has approved ATC Makena Holdings the demolishing of the old Makena Beach & Golf resort. They no longer have to build a separate 76 unit boutique hotel on the 24 acre site. The project density has been brought down from 152 units to 65 units. The vote was 5 to 1 in favor of the new amendments.
The initial boutique hotel will now be replaced with multifamily buildings. There were concerns with converting the old hotel into a boutique hotel that included the age of the structure. Long time residents of Makena are in favor of the new changes to the project.
