Saturday March 12th, Mulligans on the Blue will be hosting Reggae In The Valley Pre-Concert Series. Doors will open at 5:00 pm and the show will begin at 6:00 pm.  Pre-sale tickets available for $25.00. Featured artists include Sammy J. Tenelle, GOMEGA, T-flats and the Hi-Lytes.  More information available on the Mulligans on the Blue website.

Also taking place on Saturday March 12th, the 4th annual Taste of School Gardens event happening at Hotel Wailea on the Sunset Lawn.  Entertainment provided by Soul Kitchen. Tasty dishes made from local and school garden ingredients will be cooked up by some of Maui’s premiere chefs!  The Grow Some Good webpage has more information here.

On Sunday March 13th, from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm the Women Helping Women 19th Annual Fundraiser will take place at the King Kamehameha Golf Club.  The theme for this years event is the Roaring 20’s. Individual and whole table tickets are available for purchase.  A portion of your ticket purchase is tax deductible.  For information visit the Women Helping Women webpage.  This event is known to sell out so don’t hesitate to get your ticket!

Events March 4-March 6, 2016

Friday March 4th is band member Michael Elam of Soul Kitchen 64th Birthday Bash.  Come help him celebrate at Mulligan’s On The Blue!  Special guest Joel Katz will be accompanying Soul Kitchen on the Hawaiian steel guitar.   There will be no cover charge for this event. Festivities are scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.  Mulligans On The Blue has information on their website regarding this event as well as future events.

On Saturday March 5th Santana will be performing at the Maui Arts &  Cultural Center in Kahului.  Gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 pm.  Ticket pricing varies.  Santana’s unique musical style earned him the Billboard Latin Music Awards 2009 Lifetime Achievement Honor.  Santana is also on Rolling Stone’s top 100 greatest Guitarists of All Time.  More information available via the Maui Arts & Cultural Center webpage here.

Paia Mantokuji Soto Zen Mission is hosting it’s 39th Annual Bazaar from 7:00 am to 11:00 am on Sunday March 6th.  Traditional foods such as nishime, ohagi, and manju among others will be served.  Some delicious treats will be available as well!  Come and shop for bargains, local produce, and crafts.  Paia Mantokuji Mission is located across the street from the Paia Community Center.  Visit their website here to learn more.

Coming Up This Weekend

This Friday, February 19th,  is the Makawao Friday Town Party.  Makawao merchants get together and provide a great outdoor area to mingle and enjoy festivities.  This event runs from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Enjoy music, dancing, food, and shopping!

On Saturday February 20th, JUMPSmartMaui will be celebrating their third anniversary at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.  JUMPSmartMaui is a project between Japan, Hawaii, and Maui incorporating renewable energy for a cleaner future for Maui.  This project is in need of 300 volunteers for their next phase.  Admission is free.  Sign up to test drive a Nissan Leaf,  plus giveaways and refreshments will be available.  For more information, visit the JumpSmartMaui page here.

Maui Nui Farmers Market in Kula is an ongoing event every Thursday-Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  The 40 acre farm is famous for it’s delicious produce.  Some of the crops grown here include lettuce, zucchini, avocados among many others.  Flowers are also available including gardenias , protea, and tuberroses.  To learn more about Maui Nua Farm via their website.

Happy Chinese New Year 2016!

Chinese New Year 2016 is the Year Of The Monkey.  Chinese New Year is celebrated with friends and family gathering together to enjoy a feast.  Fireworks are a normal part of the celebration and decorations are predominantly done in red.   The monkey is the 9th sign in the 12 sign zodiac cycle.  The next time for this zodiac sign will not be until 2028.

A free all day (10:00 am to 7:00 pm) celebration will be held on Friday February 12th in Lahaina at the Wo Hing Museum on Front St.  Ring in the Year Of The Monkey with kids crafts, fireworks, music, and a traditional lion dance.
