“The Essence” Movie Premiere

Tomorrow, Thursday January 10th, surfing film “The Essence” will premiere at the Castle Theatre in Kahului. Running time is from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The film will include archived footage of over 50 surfing legends including George Downing, Buzzy Trent, Gerry Lopez, and Duke Kahanamoku. Discover the beauty of the sport and see through the eyes of surf legends why they surf.

Following the film professional surfers including Kai Lenny and Paige Alms will talk about their careers in surfing. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this legendary sport!

250th Queen Ka’ahumanu Celebration

This Friday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theatre will be the 250th birthday of Queen Ka’ahumanu celebration. The pre-show starts at 4:00 pm and will include music and local crafts. This festival will have live entertainment including music and dancing. A new mural will be unveiled at the event!

This is a wonderful community event and a great way to kick off your weekend! Tickets are available for purchase.

Tonight January 12th starting at 5:30 pm the Hawaii Farmers Union United is hosting a potluck at Maui Topical Plantation.  There is no fee to attend, however please bring a dish to share. Featured farmers will be on hand to discuss biodynamic farming techniques. This Friday January 13th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm is Lahaina Town Friday party! Come join in the fun with music performed by Maui Jam and line dancing from Keoni’s Dance Studio. Several keiki nonprofits will be fundraising at this event in Campbell Park. Friday night is also Art Night in Lahaina.  The Lahaina Visitors Center has information on participating galleries.  More information available here.

Los Angeles based rock band, Young the Giant, will be performing Saturday January 14th at the Castle Theater starting at 7:30 pm. Formally known as The Jakes, Young the Giant has had numerous top ten hits since their debut album in 2010. Events Happening This Weekend

Wailuku Town’s First Friday is taking place this Friday September 2nd from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Streets will close at 5:30 pm.  This free festival offers live music on two stages, food vendors, fashion, and a beer garden.  To view more information on this event including food vendors and performances, visit the Maui Fridays website here.

On Saturday September 3rd from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, come shopping at the Maui Swap Meet!  Located at the University of Hawaii-Maui College, this free event is a great place to find home made and unique items.  Entry fee is only .50 cents!  Information including how to become a vendor is available here.

Sunday September 4th at the Castle Theater starting at 7:30, Pink Martini Orchestra featuring China Forbes will be performing.  Classical, jazz, and pop musical inspiration styles will be enjoyed!  Pink Martini has toured the world for over 20 years!  Ticket pricing varies, and pre-show dinner options are available.  View more information via the Maui Arts website.
