Kihei Charter School New Campus

Tuesday was the first day on the new campus for Kihei Charter School. The campus is now located at the top of the Maui Research and Technology Park.

The new space is more than double the previous school location. The property is located on 3 acres, and host students from grades kindergarten through high school. Due to limited funds and expired leases, most students have had limited in classroom classes since August, but have been learning through virtual school online.

Teachers formally had to share classrooms and offices were limited. With the new building not only will teachers get their own classrooms, but the band will have their own designated band room for practice. Other possibilities to add to the school include a fitness center with workout equipment.

Parts of the school are still under construction. As the needs of the school change they will have options of how to utilize the extra space. If your interested in donating to help the school, they are currently in need of cooking equipment.

New Guided Tour In Makawao Town

Makawao History Museum will be hosting guided tours the first Sunday of every month through December. If after the three-month trial the tours become popular, the museum may keep them.

The tours will give participants a feel of what Makawao was like during the 1920’s-1940’s. Makawao was the center of social life for the farmers and plantation workers. Movies were only 10 cents, and friends would gather at the local barber shop for haircuts and games.

Although the buildings are now boutique shops, art galleries and restaurants, the original architectural style that makes the town so unique remains. The tours are free, however a $5 donation is suggested. Next tours will be at 10 am November 4th and December 2nd!

Tropical Storm Olivia Still Causing Havoc

Although Tropical Storm Olivia passed through Maui a week ago, the aftermath is still ongoing. Residents in Honokohau Valley are continuing with their clean up efforts even with no water available. The storm not only washed away personal items, but homes and cars as well.

Volunteers have come and helped with the clean up and thankfully provided food. Donating supplies and hauling away debris so that residents can focus on rebuilding. Residents who were spared damage have helped get aid to those in need and rescue stranded residents.

Residents are still in need of help! Building supplies and helping hands are essential. If you are able to donate, please email haumaui@gmail.com to find out what the most vital items are.

Hansen Ohana September Newsletter

Aloha All,

We are set to deal with Hurricane Olivia which is projected to be a tropical storm.  You might want to observe some of the effects on our beach webcam at https://www.mauirealestate.net/video.php

We are approaching the high season for tourists and the busy real estate season and thought it was also a good time to update you.  While inventory continues to shrink you will also notice that prices have steadily and solidly increased at a very modest rate over the last year.  Island wide all properties had a median price of $613,750 which is a 6.7% yearly increase.  Single family had a medium price of $675,000 which is a moderate 1.7% yearly increase.  Condos had a medium price at $480,000 which is a 11.06% yearly increase.  The reason for this disparity may be found in people more willing to purchase in the lower price ranges.  Keep in mind that this is an average and that different areas may be more or less than this average.  Additionally where sellers were overzealous with their asking price, many have lowered them to market rates.

There is a statistic that clearly points out what is happening on Maui which is the months’ supply of inventory.  As of the end of August there was 5.3 months’ supply of real estate inventory.  While this may not seem low for San Francisco, historically this is a very low number for Maui representing a 20.9% drop in supply.

Luana Garden Villas at Honua Kai pre-sales continue to be strong – over 50% are now under contract.  Kalama Kai in Kihei has broken ground and vertical building is under way.  We have some wonderful land listings ranging in price from $389,000 to $1,725,000 with a variety of potential building options both residential and commercial.  If you or someone you know is interested in land banking, building a dream home or estate or real estate development with apartment zoning, please call us to discuss.

We are in the process of planning our annual Christmas Children’s Annual Event on Saturday December 1, 2018. We will be supporting the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center again this year.

Please give us a call for updates for your specific area.  We are here to help.  Following are our numbers.
