A true staple of Maui’s culture and lifestyle would have to be AKL Maui.   Started by Ali’I Chang, the 13.5-acre farm grows 45 different varieties of lavender year round.  Locals and tourists alike can enjoy the farm, which hosts a variety of activities.

Guided Walking Tours and Guided Cart Tours are offered throughout the day at various times.  Cart tours give an extended look at the farm while the walking tour gives visitors a chance to wander.

Looking for treasure?  The Lavender Treasure Hunt turns the farm into a magical wonderland.  Follow the treasure map through the enchanted garden and find your prize in the Gallery Gift Shop.  Fun for kids (and adults too)!

Great Whale Count

Saturday February 22 was the Great Whale Count off Maui.  Volunteers joined forces with the Pacific Whale Foundation to conduct the count which has been held since 1991.  With the weather providing optimal viewing conditions, the total count for this year of 1331 surpasses the count from last year of 1126.  12 counting stations were set up along the Maui coastline.  The stations use the same protocol year to year helping to collect data for comparison. Parade Of Whales Tomorrow

Tomorrow starts the kick-off of the 2014 World Whale Day festivities.  Mick Fleetwood is the Grand Marshal for tomorrows parade.  The parade route will run down S. Kihei Rd. between Alanui Keali’i Dr. to Waimaihaihai St. from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.  Not only is this event fun, but it is educational as well.  Learn about the ocean environment and what you can do during whale season to help keep the whales safe and healthy.

Happy Chinese New Year!

2014 is the year of the Horse.  Strap in for a wild ride as the Horse’s yang energy brings a burst of excitement, spontaneous surprise, and unexpected life-changeing events!

There are activities available on Maui to help you celebrate.  The Maui Mall will be hosting it’s 15th annual festival on February 1 from 9:00am to 2:00pm.  Food, entertainment and crafts will be on hand.  You can read more about the event here.

On February 7th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm Lahaina celebrates the new year with lion dances on Front Street.  Bring the family and enjoy food, art activities, and feeding the dragon!  You can view more regarding this event here.
