Pride Of America

Memorial Weekend Events

Happening now through Saturday May 28th Restaurant Week Wailea!  Join in the celebration of Wailea’s finest cuisine! Participating restaurants offer pre-set three course menus, no passes needed!  Restaurant Week Wailea benefits the Maui Food Bank by donating a portion of  the proceeds from every ordered meal.  The Wailea Resort Association page has more information on participating restaurants as well as menus available.

On Friday May 27th, the annual lei making “Blossoms For The Brave” in honor of veterans will be held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Maui County Building in Wailuku.  Donations of blossoms are welcome and may be dropped off starting at 8:30 am on Friday.  The lei’s will be placed on veterans’ graves on Memorial Day at Maui Veterans cemetery.  The goal is to make 2,700 lei’s! On Saturday May 28th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Star Noodle in Lahaina will be hosting a rummage sale and craft fair.   This event will benefit 10 local non-profit organizations.  Limited addition items will be available for purchase.  Jewelry, clothing, plants and artwork will all be available for purchase.  No cost to attend.  More information available via the Star Noodle Facebook page here.

Hawaii The Lowest Property Tax Paying State

The appeal of the Islands just increased!  According to Corelogic, Hawaii is the lowest paying property tax state at .31 percent.

The national average is reported at 1.31 percent.  16 states currently have a property tax rate below 1 percent, 28 states have a property tax rate between 1 and 2 percent, and 7 states have a property tax rate above 2 percent.  Corelogic took into account all the unique factors each state has in levels of tax collection.

Higher rates are most noted in the northeastern states with Texas being an exception.  Other then Illinois, the higher rate states have multiple levels of tax collection.  The lower rate states have single level collection. Where does your state rank?

Activities This Weekend

Celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend with events happening at the Queen Kaahumanu Center.  Friday May 6th a free concert opening with Tflatz & The Highlights and headliner Princess IIona starting at 6:30 pm.  Princess IIona is best known for her hit Island Boy.  Come Friday and receive coupons for Saturday and Sunday.  More information available at the Queen Kaahumanu Center website here.

Valley Isle Road Runners, the non-profit organization, will be having its 37th annual Women’s 5K Run “Na Holo Wahine” and 1 Mile Walk.  All proceeds to benefit Hale Kau Kau.  Race goers can sign up as individuals or as a mother-daughter team.  Race will begin at 8:00 am at Keopuolani Park in Wailuku.  View the Valley Isle Road Runners website for registration information.

Also on Saturday May 7th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm the Seabury Hall Craft Fair will be taking place.  This is one of Upcountry’s most popular spring events!  All proceeds go to the Financial Aid Program at Seabury Hall   Food, live entertainment, silent auction and activities will be featured.  $5 admission, children under 12 are free!  Seabury Hall is located in Makawao at 480 Olinda Road.  More information available here.
