Maui Film Festival Happening Now!

It’s that time of year once again!  The Maui Film Festival is taking place now and running through June 19th.  The Celestial Cinema located at the Wailea Gold & Emerald Golf Course will be screening films on a 50 foot screen all solar-powered.  Other screenings will be taking place at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Castle Theater, plus special parties and events will be going on at other locations. Some of the Honorees and Luminaries expected at this years festival include Colin Farrell, Emma Roberts, Laura Dern, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Clint Eastwood just to name a few.

The Maui Film Festival is also a culinary event.  The event kicked off at the Molokini Gardens with the Taste Of Summer Party.  Tomorrow’s event is the Taste of Chocolate at the Four Seasons Resort from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  View the Taste of Chocolate menu here.  Saturdays event is the Taste of Wailea at the Wailea Gold & Emerald golf course.  View the menu for Saturday here.

Events Going On This Weekend!

On Friday June 3rd from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wailuku will be hosting First Friday!  Market Street will close at 5:30 pm.  Lots of free things happening on Friday!  While supplies last, free cupcakes in honor of Wailuku Coffee Companies 6th anniversary, Free viewing of  “Monty Python And The Holy Grail,  free yoga class at 4:45 courtesy of Body Alive Yoga, and free parking available!  Lots more will be going on in Wailuku, view more details of the event here.

This Saturday and Sunday June 4th and 5th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm the 36th Annual Maui Upcountry Fair will be taking place at the Oskie Rice Arena in Makawao.  Entrance is free, however there is a $5 charge for parking.  This annual event is one of the favorites for not only locals, but visitors as well!  Come enjoy delicious food including a BBQ cook off and crafts by local artists.  Keiki Zone will include pony rides, bounce castles, crafts, and the Cutest Cowboy and Cowgirl Contest.  Live entertainment all weekend long!  More information available via the Maui Upcountry Fair Facebook page here.

Pride Of America

Pride Of America

Docked in Kahului Boat Harbor is the impressive 2000 passenger Pride Of America ship.  This is the only ship to sail around the Hawaiian Islands year round.  Native ambassadors of the ship will be your guides and teachers first hand of Hawaiian culture.  This massive ship has more than 15 restaurants and 12 bars and lounges on board.  The spacious comfortable suites make the Pride Of America a great adventure for families!  Enjoy a swim on board in the spacious pool, or spend the day being pampered at the Mandara Spa.  There is plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy!  You can learn more about the  Pride Of America ship and see everything the ship has to offer here.

Memorial Weekend Events

Happening now through Saturday May 28th Restaurant Week Wailea!  Join in the celebration of Wailea’s finest cuisine! Participating restaurants offer pre-set three course menus, no passes needed!  Restaurant Week Wailea benefits the Maui Food Bank by donating a portion of  the proceeds from every ordered meal.  The Wailea Resort Association page has more information on participating restaurants as well as menus available.

On Friday May 27th, the annual lei making “Blossoms For The Brave” in honor of veterans will be held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Maui County Building in Wailuku.  Donations of blossoms are welcome and may be dropped off starting at 8:30 am on Friday.  The lei’s will be placed on veterans’ graves on Memorial Day at Maui Veterans cemetery.  The goal is to make 2,700 lei’s! On Saturday May 28th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Star Noodle in Lahaina will be hosting a rummage sale and craft fair.   This event will benefit 10 local non-profit organizations.  Limited addition items will be available for purchase.  Jewelry, clothing, plants and artwork will all be available for purchase.  No cost to attend.  More information available via the Star Noodle Facebook page here.

Events For The Weekend

Friday April 15th from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm the 8th Annual Steel Guitar Festival will be taking place at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel.  This event is a free event open to the public!  This will be the largest showcase of talent year to date.  Scheduled to perform are Nathan Aweau, Maunalua, Mailani, and Ledward Kaapana. The Mele Mei website has more information regarding this event as well as other upcoming events.

From 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday April 16th, the Maui Horse Show Association will be sponsoring the Western Horse Show at Piholo Ranch.  Maui Gypsy Food Truck will be providing refreshments.  Volunteers to work the event are needed!  The Maui Horse Show Facebook page has more information available here.

Also beginning on Saturday April 16th, Brian Walks Maui will be starting.  Brian Sato is walking the entire perimeter of Maui in 8 days concluding on April 23rd in the hopes to raise $5000 dollars for non-profit therapeutic programs.  Brian is dedicated to helping the community and spends most of his time volunteering for non-profit organizations.  Read more about Brian Walks via his go fund me page here.
