Art Festival

Starting this Saturday, October 5th and running through December 29th each weekend is the Arts Festival Lahaina. Hours of operation are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The Art Festival is held at the Lahaina Arts Society at Lahaina Cannery Mall. Here you can view all local Maui artists works. Artwork presented includes photography, painting, pottery and jewelry. Shoppers will be able to talk with these local artists while they shop. Tents will be set up on the lawn by Starbucks. It’s a great time to look for that unique gift for someone special!

 

 

Music Festival Happening This Weekend

The Republik Music Festival will be happening this weekend on both Friday and Saturday night. Gates at the A&B Amphitheater will open at 5:00 pm with the show starting at 6:00 pm.

The line up for Friday night includes Steel Pulse, Trevor Hall, and the Original Wailers. Saturday the lineup includes Tribal Seeds, Matisyahu, and Groundation.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase on both nights. Tickets vary in price. A discount may be available if purchasing tickets for both nights.

Heatwave Continues

Record high temperatures were recorded in Kahului Monday. Temperatures reached 96 degrees breaking the pervious record of 94 degrees set in 1996. Sunday, the record high temperature of 94 degrees was recorded breaking the old record of 92 degrees set in 1977. Known for it’s cooler temperatures, Hilo hit a record breaking 90 degrees Sunday from the previously held record set in 1972!

Forecast for today is 92 degrees. With humidity added, it may reach a heat index of 99 degrees. Forecasters are keeping a lookout on Hurricane Kiko. Hurricane Kiko is currently a category 1 system. By the time it reaches the Central Pacific, it should hopefully be downgraded to a tropical storm

 

Maytag Dependable Leader Award

The Maytag Dependable Leader Award is awarded to staff or volunteers of the Boys & Girls Club who have made a positive impact and become a supportive adult in the lives of the children.

This years recipient is Gina McLain Director of Maui Boys & Gils Club! The award of $20,000 given to the Maui Boys & Girls Club will help the Maui program develop their volunteer program Give 60. The Give 60 program was developed to motivate teens to volunteer 60 minutes a week. The goal is to inspire them to be empathetic and generous.

Congratulations Central East Maui Players!

Congratulations to the Central East Maui players for their fourth place finish at the Little League World Series. This is the first Maui team to make it to the Little League World Series. The LLWS is held each year in Williamsport, PA..

The team made it all the way to the championship game but fell short. More than 6,500 teams compete in the Little League program trying to earn a spot in the LLWS in Williamsport. Maui Mayor Victorino was in attendance for the weekend games along with his former Major League play Shane Victorino.
