Congratulations to the Central East Maui players for their fourth place finish at the Little League World Series. This is the first Maui team to make it to the Little League World Series. The LLWS is held each year in Williamsport, PA..
The team made it all the way to the championship game but fell short. More than 6,500 teams compete in the Little League program trying to earn a spot in the LLWS in Williamsport. Maui Mayor Victorino was in attendance for the weekend games along with his former Major League play Shane Victorino.
Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families on their successful season!
Congratulations to Jaime Perez! He received word last week that he has been selected to work the 2019 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA August 15th to August 25th.
Perez was presented with the news from his wife Debbi, and the Umpire in Chief for the Little League West Region, Mark Bernstein during a weekend cruise that was hosted by Bernstein. Perez is just the second Hawaii umpire to ever be chosen to participate at the Little League World Series.
Perez, a former player from California, has lived on Maui for the past 8 years. He has attended the World Series previously to watch friends umpire. To be selected as one of 16 umpires for him is the crowning jewel of his umpiring career. Congratulations again on your achievement and recognition!
Hawaii beat South Korea 3-0 to win its first Little League World Series in 10 years. Up until the championship game, South Korea had not given up a home run the entire tournament. That all changed when Mana Lau Kong went yard and hammered the first pitch of the game deep dead center. It would have been all Hawaii needed but they added two more runs for good measure.
Pitcher Ka’olu Holt pitched a two hitter complete game for the win. A more aggressive approach on base running led to the second and third runs of the game. Team Manager Gerald Oda credits the strength of this squad is the way they come together and play as a team.
Congratulations to all the team members, coaches, and families for winning the championship!
Congratulations to the Honolulu Little League boys baseball team for their 8-3 victory over Michigan to advance at the Little League World Series.
Michigan had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After a 6 run inning in the second, Honolulu never looked back. Michigan had runners in scoring position, but were unable to capitalize after Honolulu changed pitchers.
With this win the team advances to the next round. They battle against New York on Wednesday. Congratulations again on your advancement and best of luck for the remainder of the tournament!
