World Whale Film Festival

The annual World Whale Film Festival is taking place tomorrow, Friday February 8th at the Iao Theater in Wailuku. The event time is from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The theme for 2019 is “inspiring ocean health through waves of change.”

Beginning at 5:00 pm informational booths will be on hand in the courtyard next to the theater. Those interested in eating beforehand can dine at HI Thai Food Truck. Event guests will receive a 20% discount.

Doors will open at 5:30 pm with the film scheduled to start at 6:15 pm. Intermission with snacks available for purchase will be at 7:30 pm. Upon the film’s conclusion at 9:00 pm, Wai Bar is hosting a private festival social for those who attended the film.

Wailuku Town Friday Party

Tomorrow, Friday February 1st, is the Wailuku First Friday party from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This event takes place along Market Street. Street closure starts at 5:30 pm. Free parking is available at the Maui Medical Center parking lot.

Live musical entertainment provided by Kuala, Luna Overdrive, Gene Argel, Johnny Z, Mark Johnson Live Funk and Jazz, The Goods with DJ Boomshot, DJ Carone, and Jay P. Magical act The Magic of Kamishibai will have two free showings at Mapa Warehouse on Main Street.

Local restaurants include Gianotto’s Pizza, 808 On Main, Saigon Cafe, Kings BBQ plus many more! Enjoy craft booths from local artisans! This is a great free family event that also supports the community!

Classical Guitarist Derek Gripper

Classical guitarist Derek Gripper will be performing Thursday night, January 31st at the McCoy Studio Theater. The show is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm and run until approximately 10:00 pm.

His concerts explore the styles that have influenced his music to date. Bach, Malian songs, kora compositions, Southern African bow music, and avant-garde Brazillian guitar music. When combined it creates an unusual explosive sound.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center members can receive a 10% discount off tickets. Kids 12 and under are free.

Town Party Time In Lahaina!

This Friday January 11th, Lahaina will be hosting the Maui Friday’s Town Party! Event time runs from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This is a free family friendly event filled with music, art, food and culture!

In Campbell Park, Maui Jam and Kuikawa will be performing. Also in Campbell Park, Keiki Zone with art and activities for all ages, acai bowls provided by Ono Pono Acai, local jewelry and scents by Pacific Touch, fresh lei’s from Waiola Church and so much more!

“The Essence” Movie Premiere

Tomorrow, Thursday January 10th, surfing film “The Essence” will premiere at the Castle Theatre in Kahului. Running time is from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The film will include archived footage of over 50 surfing legends including George Downing, Buzzy Trent, Gerry Lopez, and Duke Kahanamoku. Discover the beauty of the sport and see through the eyes of surf legends why they surf.

Following the film professional surfers including Kai Lenny and Paige Alms will talk about their careers in surfing. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this legendary sport!
