Lana’i 5th Friday Event

This Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm the town party will be held in Lana’i at Dole Park. A special late night ferry is set up for those coming from Maui to enjoy the evening festivities.

Vendors and various entertainment will be found throughout DolePark. Storefront parking will be blocked off beginning at 3:00 pm.

Chef Ivan Pahk will provide a food demonstration. Food vendors include Blue Gingers, Four Seasons Food Truck, No Ka Oi Grinds, Cafe 565, I LOVE Tacos, and many others! Live music includes Joel Katz performing on the Dole Park Stage. Free faceprinting at the Lanai Art Center, and free Henna’s at Mike Carroll Gallery.

Maui residents and visitors are encouraged to attend and support the local businesses of Lana’i!

Maui Matsuri Festival

The Maui Matsuri Festival is being held at the UH Maui College in Kahului on Saturday, May 25th, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This is the only Japanese festival held on Maui and is run by volunteers. The UH Maui campus will be transformed into a Japanese village.

During the event, the Maui Matsuri Business award will be presented to the business that has shown the most support for the Japanese culture on Maui. Entertainment includes various taiko groups, martial arts demonstrations, and traditional Japanese dancing.

For those with a competitive streak, there will be games and contests to participate in. Video gaming, an eating contest, cosplay, along with manga and arts. Plenty of food vendors providing a wide variety of Japanese eats will be available throughout the campus. The Kokomo (Children) corner will have activities for kids of all ages to participate in.

This is a free event with $5 parking available.

20th Annual Maui Film Festival

The 20th Annual Maui Film Festival will be held this year from June 12th through June 16th. The festival is one of Maui’s premier events held at various locations throughout Maui including the Wailea Resort and the Celestial Cinema.

In the evening during the festival, a culinary event is held. The launch party takes place at the Grand Wailea Wednesday, June 12th with the Taste of Summer. Guests must be 21 and over to attend. Cocktails will be paired with with tastey bites! Purchasing tickets to Taste of Summer also grants you access for back to back premieres that evening.

Taste of Chocolate is held at the Four Seasons Resort on Thursday, June 13th. This is a dress to impress event for guests 21 and over that is all about delicious sweet treats! Tickets for Taste of Chocolate also includes two premiere’s plus activities at the Celestial Cinema that evening.

Taste of Wailea on Saturday June 15th, is the best of the best from Wailea chef’s and is held at the Wailea Golf Academy. Chef’s will be serving up their mouthwatering specialties. This is also a 21 and over event that will include two premier admission tickets at Celestial Cinema for that evening.

The movies playing during the festival at Celestial Cinema include True Hawaii, The Magic Beneath Us, Stuffed, Wild Rose, Bottom Of The 9th, The Farewell, Pavarotti, Paige, This Excellent Life, and Echo In The Canyon. Playing at Castle Theater are One, Gay Chorus Deep South, Becoming Nobody, Cracked Up, Well Groomed, CRSHD, Botero, and We Rise Up.

Maui Brewers Festival

The 11th annual Maui Brewers Festival will be taking place this Saturday, May 18th at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Exclusive VIP Tasting will begin at 2:00 pm. Food from local restaurants and caterers are included in your ticket purchase. No additional charge to eat!

This year’s list of breweries include Hawaii favorites and some newbies to the festival. New breweries include Burgeon Beer, Faction, Mason Ale Works, Moonraker Brewing, Revision, Second Chance Brewing, Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, and Urban Roots. Hawaii brewed favorites include Aloha Beer, Beer Lab, Big Island Brewhaus, Hilo Brewing & Beverages, Honolulu BeerWorks, Kauai Beer, Kauai Island Brewing, Kohola Brewery, Kona Brewing, Lanikai Brewing, Maui Brewing, Ola Brew, Paradise Ciders and Waikiki Brewing.

Food vendors include Maui Brewing Co, Aloha Thai Fusion, Fork & Salad, The Maui Cookie Lady, Whole Foods, and so many others! Live music provided by Yum Yum Beast, Riddum Station and Flat Jackson. For those non beer drinkers, there will be hard cider, hard kombucha and root beer.

Money raised from the festival helps provide funds to Maui Arts & Cultural Center programs and community enrichment.

Picnic For Poki

On Thursday, May 16, Roselyn Place and Ola Na Mele Productions will present Picnic for Poki at the Historic Kaahumanu Church in Wailuku Town. Event will begin at 11:00 am and is held to honor the late Allen “Bradded Poki” Pokipala who was dedicated to sharing Hawaiian music..

Hawaiian music will be performed by Ernest Pua’a. Pua’a was born in Oahu before moving to Maui in the late 70’s. His father taught him to play the guitar while his mother taught him how to sing. Pua’a is a sought after musician on Maui performing at weddings and various venues.

Refreshments including cookies and coffee from Roselyn Place kitchen will be available. Bring a lunch and a lawn chair. This is a free event open to the public!
