Saturday February 22 was the Great Whale Count off Maui. Volunteers joined forces with the Pacific Whale Foundation to conduct the count which has been held since 1991. With the weather providing optimal viewing conditions, the total count for this year of 1331 surpasses the count from last year of 1126. 12 counting stations were set up along the Maui coastline. The stations use the same protocol year to year helping to collect data for comparison. You can read more regarding the Great Whale Count here via Pacific Whale Foundation. Events coming in March include a viewing of Blackfish and Evening with the Experts.
