Kauai Possibly Breaks Record

The recent flash flooding that occurred April 15th on Kauai may have broken a national 24 hour rainfall record according to The National Weather Service. 49.69 inches of rain were recorded in Waipa during a 24 hour period.

This total still has to be certified and if it is, it will have broken the previous record of 43 inches in Alvin, Texas back from 1979.

The National Climate Extremes Committee will review the data collected at the Waipa gauge and determine if indeed an almost 40 year record has been broken.
