Maui Shows Up for Maui

As of Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2026: Hurricane Lala has weakened into Tropical Storm Lala. The Big Island experienced the strongest effects as the storm passed nearby. Maui has also had heavy rain, gusty winds, flooding concerns, and dangerous ocean conditions. Our hearts are with the people of the Big Island, who have faced especially difficult conditions from this storm.

Maui remains under a Tropical Storm Warning. Please stay alert, avoid flooded roads, streams, and rough shorelines, be aware that trees along with telephone poles continue to be hazards. Please see links below for more information.

In times like these most of Maui’s population has understood that community is not just a word, it is action. It is checking on kupuna (elders), sharing reliable information, offering help where it is needed, and looking out for one another with aloha. That is the true Maui way, living through giving. As we move through this storm, may we continue to be patient, prepared, and present for our neighbors. Together, Maui will get through it, as we always do.
