Big Storm Coming to Maui: Get Ready Now

Tropical Storm Lala is forecast to hit Hawaii this weekend, bringing heavy rain, flooding, high winds, and dangerous surf to Maui starting around Saturday, August 15. Maui County officials are urging residents to prepare now, before conditions worsen.

Here’s what to have on hand:

  • Water & food: One gallon of water per person per day for at least 3 days, plus non-perishable food and a manual can opener
  • Light & power: Flashlights, batteries, a weather radio, and fully charged phones/power banks
  • First aid & meds: A basic first-aid kit and a 1-2 week supply of prescriptions
  • Cash & documents: Small bills (ATMs may not work) and copies of ID, insurance, and medical records in a waterproof bag
  • Vehicle & property: Full gas tank, vehicle parked on high ground, and outdoor furniture secured
  • Pets: Food, water, and records for at least a week
