Access to the Lahaina Bypass in West Maui will be available to locals, emergency personnel, and West Maui employees beginning at 6 p.m. tonight. The route will be accessible to all traffic from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, with residents, first responders, and workers being the only ones allowed access at night. Officials emphasize restricted access for necessary uses and provide priority to residents, first responders, and medical professionals.

USPS has announced that, effective immediately, Lahaina residents can pick up their mail at the Wailuku Post Office.
The North-South Collector Road, the first phase of the Liloa Drive expansion, is anticipated to open in Kihei by Maui County officials in 2027. The extension will offer a another route to the congested South Kihei Road and Piilani Highway, reducing traffic in the area. With plans to extend the road even further north in later phases, the county recently secured a $25 million federal grant to pay the majority of the first phase’s construction costs.

Over 100 pupils will eventually be admitted to the $245 million Kulanihako’i High School in Kihei starting next month. The school will initially not have a grade-separated crossing required by the state Land Use Commission, but it will open after cooperative efforts between county and state officials. Concerns about student safety while crossing a busy roadway have led the Department of Education to develop a temporary pedestrian safety plan until an overpass is built.
