Wildfire Sensors

As part of a pilot initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Fire Administration, wildfire sensors outfitted with artificial intelligence (AI) learning algorithms will shortly be installed throughout Kihei and West Maui. These sensors, which were created by a number of groups, can identify flames up to a mile away, speak with one another, and send out text and email notifications to fire crews in advance. Governor Josh Green of Hawaii and Mayor Richard Bissen of Maui County are among the leaders who are upbeat about the potential of these cutting-edge tools to prevent fatalities and lessen the destructive effects of wildfires, particularly as the summer fire season draws near.
