UPDATE ON PETS DIRECT FLIGHT TO MAUI

Update regarding Pets transported into Maui since the Board of Agriculture approved direct release of pets into Maui.

United is accepting pets in cargo, the same policy they have into Honolulu.  However, ATA which accepts pets in cabin to Honolulu has advised us at this time they are not honoring the Maui program.   Hawaiian Airlines is not accepting pets in cabin (or cargo, from what we understand) into Maui.  These are the three main airlines that we intend to try to work with to get clearance.  At this point the only person to come into Maui with her pets was Oprah but of course she has her own private jet and does not have to contend with commercial airline policies.  That by the way we understand from the Maui Humane Society went very well.

At this juncture the Maui Humane Society and the South Shore Veterinary Clinic have been approved to clear pets here on Maui.  As to pets in cargo,  the Department of Agriculture found a location for the pets to be taken to and where the Humane Society (and I assume South Shore Vet) can clear the pet and release it to the owner.  This location is currently at the far end of the airport, the north eastern corner and is very close to the United Airlines gates. As mentioned earlier our understanding is that United is allowing pets in cargo. Anyone interested in bringing their pet into Maui should contact the airline directly.
