To assist the expansion of Liloa Drive, the first stage of the Kihei North-South Collector Road’s north portion, Maui County has been awarded a $25 million federal grant. Through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) initiative, which gave more than $2.2 billion to 162 transportation infrastructure projects around the country, this financing was made available. With a two-lane road, landscaped shared-use walkways for walkers and cyclists, roundabouts at significant intersections, and two bridges, the project intends to reduce traffic congestion in South Maui. The first phase will cover 0.44 miles, and subsequent phases are expected to be finished subject to receiving the required financing and Phase I’s completion.
The Ala Wai Bridge, which will build a 300-foot bridge across the Ala Wai Canal on Oahu, is another noteworthy project in Hawaii that will get finance through the RAISE initiative. The efforts being made to solve the state’s transportation infrastructure needs are reflected in these initiatives. Local leaders, including Mayor Richard Bissen and County Council Member Tom Cook, praised the long-awaited and crucial Liloa Drive Extension project, pointing out its benefits for traffic congestion, safety, and access to residential areas. Following the completion of an environmental evaluation and permit approval, construction is anticipated to start in 2025.
